The focus of my current research is on foundational aspects of quantum computation, and quantum computer architecture. This concerns three aspects in particular, namely:

  1. the role of contextuality in quantum computation,
  2. the connection between measurement-based quantum computation (MBQC) and symmetry-protected topological order, and
  3. a distributed quantum computer architecture based on small ion traps and photonic links.
