On Friday 7 April, Walter Hardy hosted a dozen visitors to the SBQMI for a “Low Temperatures and Superconductivity” lab tour.

, ,, , , , , , The visitors were high school students, on campus to compete in the 2017 Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair, hosted by UBC. In the picture, Walter is showing superconductivity with a table-top demo. Using liquid nitrogen to cool samples of yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO), to 77 K and below their superconducting transition temperature, YBCO samples can be made to levitate above permanent magnets.
